June 2nd, 2009householdJunk mail is a pain in the arse. Here are some notes on how to deal with it.
Get on the “no junk mail” ADMA register
ADMA is a big Australian direct marketing (junkmail sending) organisation. Their “do not mail” service lets you register a residential address with them, so they know not to send you stuff in the mail. It takes 30-45 days for them to process your registration. Register now.Get a “no junk mail” sticker for your mailbox
Reflective “no advertising material” stickers are available fromthe Distribution Standards Board – all it takes is a stamped self-addressed envelope. Get one now. If you already have one, but are still getting junk mail, you can report irresponsible distribution to the DSB on their hotline – 1800 676 136.Recycle junk mail you do get
- Cleaning – newsprint paper is effective on glass surfaces (mirrors, tabletops, windows, etc.)
- Craft – also good for crafts (zines, collages and papier-mâché)
- Pets – line the pee and poo areas
- Garden – compost, pot liners, disposable cleaning ‘rags’
